The US has warned the Cuban authorities against using force against the protesters. This was warned by the assistant to the US President for National Security, Jake Sullivan, as quoted by TASS.
“The United States supports freedom of expression and freedom of assembly in Cuba and will strongly condemn any violence or actions directed against peaceful protesters who defend their universal right,” he said.
Earlier, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, amid protests in the country, called on supporters of the current government to take to the streets and resist provocations, which, according to him, are “counter-revolutionary mercenaries”.
In early 2021, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that the US had returned Cuba to the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. According to Pompeo, the United States took this step because of” repeated support for acts of international terrorism and the hiding of terrorists ” from the Cuban side.
